Beautiful. Charming. Lovely. Gracious. Impossibly gorgeous.
And the thing of it is, with this cast, there’s not a word of it that isn’t the absolute truth. If I learned anything at all yesterday it’s that this is a bunch of actors who feel completely indebted to their fan-base for all the support they’ve given their show and those don’t come across as empty words from the likes of Damon Salvatore himself, Ian Somerhalder, ‘without you guys,’ he said during his Q & A session, ‘there wouldn’t be a show’.
Each of the four actors took their turn out on the stage, and each of them brought their amazing enthusiasm and charisma with them, charming the crowd and keeping things moving all day with quips, smiles and intelligent, thoughtful answers.
No brush offs or long winded run round’s to be had, though there was a reoccurring theme in regards to a certain cast member whose belief that the truth [and aliens] are out there had his cast-mates playing a particularly spectacular prank on him involving mysterious phone-calls and special stones from above.
The name of this believer? ‘He may or may not be a high school history teacher in Mystic Falls’, Somerhalder grinned at the crowd, after being coerced to tell what Paul and Nina had kept carefully mum about. ‘Ask Ian,’ Wesley told us beforehand, ‘he’s gullible, I think he’s a bit thick’. The amusement was genuine, but so is the friendship between the pair. Between all four of them. They toured a few of the sights together and word tells that before leaving Melbourne this afternoon Nina and Paul took the time to pay the Tim Burton exhibition a visit in the city.
This is a cast that enjoy each others company, and that translates to their chemistry on screen. ‘Social life, someone told me about that, it sounds nice,’ Dobrev joked during her own Q & A session when asked what she did when she wasn’t on set filming. ‘We are a family, these guys are my family.’ So, with everything that went on, what were the high lights of the day for this fan?
Trevino retelling how his foot slipped during a scene with Tyler and Matt where he accidentally kneed him in the groin, ‘we had to take a break and I felt really bad’, his experience trying Vegemite, ‘I had a local [spread the Vegemite] do it, I didn’t wanna screw this up. It’s an acquired taste but I finished it, I didn’t spit it out!’, Nina discussing her holiday in Australia where she got to ‘spoon a Kangaroo’, Paul designing his Auction shirt complete with a doodle of Damon cackling beside his broken heart, Ian discussing why we needed to take care of the environment and his own tribute to his pecs penned to a shirt – ‘I should have worked on the abs before I came’ — before it was auctioned off for a staggering $2,000 — the proceeds of which all went to the Starlight Foundation.
All in all, it’s difficult to pick a moment that stands out as the single best, because there were, as you can see, so many moments that make it on the list. I guess, being such a big fan of Paul‘s work, and of him personally, I’d have to go with the very end of the cocktail party that night as he was preparing to leave. He spotted me at the bar, pointed and said ‘Jacqui!’ — Paul Wesley remembered my name.

Hey Jacqui,
Congrats on winning the video, it was fantastic…I didn’t read your post until today, we were actually in row C and loved your video, watched it again today. I bet your were rapt.
How great was the day, we loved it. I was there with my daughter and she had the best time, dreams come true
p.s. thanks for all the pictures & info and your posts, love coming here
First off – congrats for winning the video contest! My best friend and I both honestly believe your video was the best and most creative from all videos shown (incl the other stars!) at the convention. I went to the Sydney convention and loved every minute of it
I agree about all the cast being so charming, gracious and genuine. Paul, in particular, was so warm and actually took the time to connect and talk to us while taking the photos. Love him for that!
Sad that it’s over though! Hope they come back to Aus soon! Thanks for the melbourne coverage and kudos to this great site!
Thanks Jacqui,
I actually did a video also, but it wasn’t even close to what you did, so thank you..
And I couldn’t have said it better myself

Hey – great article – I loved hearing about the Melbourne leg of the con
Sounds like Paul was on fire there too – he’s hilarious
And congrats on winning the vid contest – everyone in Sydney cracked up watching it – Paul was standing at the back of the room watching it too – of course when everyone realised he was standing there the screams started and they didn’t pay as much attention to the vid lol
I liked your Damon vid too but they would probably only let you win one of the them lol
Hey Veronica!
Yes!! We DID have an epic, epic day. I’m still recovering. Haha. Aw, thanks, I’m sure your pics turned out great also. We’ll def. have to keep in touch, be ready for the next TVD Con.
Hi Jacqui,
Congratulations on the terrific video you put together for Paul. You are so creative. I was at the Melbourne event and had a fantastic time. Paul was very gracious and sat next to me for a chat in the evening. I felt very lucky to have had that privilege. It would be so good if they put on another TVD con I would be on the first plane from Perth to be there! Love the idea of your Team Stefan project.
Kind regards Gerry
